What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving is a way to make a charitable gift through your estate or financial plans while maintaining full control of your assets during your lifetime.

Many planned gifts are made through a Will, life insurance policy, RRSP, RRIF, securities, or other financial arrangements. With professional advice, these gifts can often be structured in ways that support both your charitable goals and your family's needs.

Why Planned Giving Matters

A planned gift is more than a donation—it is a lasting investment in the people and services that make our community stronger.

By including Helping Hands in your estate plans, you help ensure local seniors and adults with physical disabilities continue to have access to transportation, meals, personal support, wellness checks, and transitional care for years to come.

Benefits of Planned Giving

Support What Matters Most

Align your philanthropy with your values and create lasting impact in your community.

Potential Tax Advantages

Planned gifts may provide tax benefits for you today and your estate in the future.

Create a Lasting Legacy

Leave a meaningful tribute that reflects your values and continues helping others for generations.

Ways to Create Your Legacy

Choose the options that fit your goals. We’ll help you tailor the language and steps with your advisors.

A Gift in Your Will

(Bequest)

Include HHO in your Will with a specific amount or percentage of your estate. You maintain full use of your assets during your lifetime, and your estate may benefit from charitable tax credits.

Gifts of Publicly Traded

Securities

Donate stocks or mutual fund units in-kind to potentially eliminate capital gains tax and receive a receipt for fair market value.

Life Insurance

Designate HHO as a beneficiary of an existing policy or a new policy. Premiums are modest, and proceeds can create a significant future gift.

RRSPs & RRIFs

Name HHO as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your registered plans. This can reduce or eliminate taxes otherwise payable by your estate on those funds.

Endowment or Named

Fund

Establish an endowed or named fund (now or through your Will) to provide ongoing, annual support in

the area of greatest need—or for a program you love.

Other Meaningful

Options

Gifts in kind (e.g., artwork), charitable remainder trusts, or monthly giving are all impactful; monthly gifts provide reliable funding for services and can be set up quickly.

The Impact of Your Legacy

Legacy gifts strengthen service quality, expand access, and keep care close to home.

Transportation and escorted rides to medical appointments and essential errands

Meals on Wheels and food security support

Personal Support Services that protect health, dignity, and independence

Telephone Reassurance and wellness check-ins that reduce isolation

Transitional Bed and Respite Services that provide short-term recovery and stability

Legacy Circle Recognition

We are grateful to honour planned giving donors through our Legacy Circle.

Whether you prefer public recognition or complete anonymity, your wishes will always be respected. Many donors choose to share their stories to inspire others, while others prefer to give quietly.

Your generosity will be stewarded with care and appreciation.

FAQs

  • Can I change my plans later?

Yes. Most planned gifts can be changed if your circumstances or priorities change.

No, but sharing your intentions allows us to thank you, answer questions, and ensure your gift is used according to your wishes.

  • Can I remain anonymous?

Absolutely. We respect every donor's privacy and can recognize your gift publicly or keep it completely confidential.

  • Should I speak with a lawyer or financial advisor?
